ALBEROBELLO: UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Itria Valley tour can start from one of the symbolic towns of this area: Alberobello, whose “trulli” perfectly represent the dominant and the typical architectural style of this area. The trulli are some typical white houses with a cone-shaped roof, and the Rione Monti, one of the most important streets in this town, is full of them. Here you can take a stroll, buy souvenirs or take picturesque photos. You should also visit the Trullo Siamese, the Church of Sant’Antonio and the Basilica of Santi Medici Cosma e Damiano.

LOCOROTONDO

Not far from Alberobello there is a very pretty village that has also been named one of the most beautiful places in Italy : Locorotondo. The typical white houses, called “cummerse”, contrast with its balconies and vases full of flowers or, at Christmas time, full of coloured lights and garlands. The belvedere on Via Nardelli is not to be missed, due to its breathtaking view of the olive grove, the masserias and the trulli. You cannot miss important buildings such as Chiesa Madre di San Giorgio Martire, Chiesa della Madonna della Greca or Chiesa di San Nicola di Bari.

MARTINA FRANCA

The Itria Valley is rich in traditions and good food, such as that of Martina Franca, in the province of Taranto. Its most famous products are “bombette” (which are meat rolls) or, for example, “capocollo” (cured neck of pork). Martina Franca is also famous for its buildings and its stately palaces dominated by the Baroque style. You can see some of them along Via Cavour like Palazzo Ducale, the Basilica of San Martino and Carmine Church.

CISTERNINO

Another of the most beautiful villages in Italy cannot be missing from the Itria Valley tour : Cisternino. The structure of the village is typically composed of narrow streets of white houses in which it is nice to get lost and stop to admire the panorama, because every corner of this town has a suggestive view to impress in your mind or to photograph. After a nice walk, you can relax in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, whose clock, as well as marking time, is the symbol of this town, together with the Church dedicated to San Nicola.

OSTUNI

We can conclude our tour of the Itria Valley in the beautiful white town of Ostuni. Strolling through the small streets full of white houses, souvenir shops, excellent restaurant and buildings rich in history and art, will be an unforgettable experience. The beautiful Sant’Oronzo square, the symbol of the city, is the beating heart of the city’s nightlife. In summer it is full of life and each of its bars and restaurants is packed with people. Not to be missed the rock church of San Biagio, as well as the church of Sant’Oronzo. We recommend the Cala di Torre Pozzelle, just outside the town, characterised by coves of crystal-clear water and the magnificent scenery of the Mediterranean maquis.
